Greetings from Mint Hill, NC!
Like many of you, I’m glad that collecting the vast majority of my K-1s and other financial documents for my CPA before April 15th is behind me. I file an extension every year while waiting on a few tardy documents (similar to some of our clients), but I’m always relieved when the bulk of it is “in” and my CPA can guide me on the next round of “estimated” tax payments. Like any estimate, it’s wrong 100% of the time — and I always hope for the “close” or “overpayment” conversation rather than the “get your checkbook out” one.
With April 15th behind us, now is a great time to connect with your advisor and CPA for 2026 tax planning. Beyond maxing out pre-tax retirement accounts, backdoor Roths, 529s, and charitable giving, many of our accredited investors will utilize IDC deductions from energy investments or bonus depreciation from real estate to reduce active or passive income. Talk with your advisor and CPA to see if either makes sense for your situation in 2026. As our long-time clients are well aware, we love (legally and ethically) reducing our clients’ heavy tax burden and will continue to present solutions to that end.
On a more personal note, my oldest turns 16 this summer, and that milestone is a reminder of how quickly time passes and how short our window is to make a difference in the lives around us. It leaves me wanting to enjoy each small moment (like driving together), be intentional with my time, and be a good steward of what has been entrusted to me — while also seeking adventure and investing in fun experiences as a family. Jet skis may or may not be in our garage soon (YOLO, right?)…
I’ll close with one of my favorite quotes, author unknown, and a few reading pieces that I trust you will find useful. As for the quote, may this be true of you and me: “You steward a great trust. Be found faithful.”
Enjoy the articles below, and thank you for your continued trust in Mint Hill. It is our honor to serve you and help you build wealth as a tool toward your financial goals. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to your advisor team if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Tim Beldner
